OEHLINS FORK SPRINGS 8.5 VFR800 FI 2002-05 /#5
Öhlins fork springs are the ideal complement to Öhlins rear suspension. They ensure that your motorcycle chassis is optimally balanced! Just like their monoshocks, the fork springs from the famous Swedish suspension manufacturer are tailored to the individual motorcycle model. The result is optimal performance that is noticeably superior to OEM fork springs, which are often too soft.
Modern, high-precision production methods mean that Öhlins fork springs deviate by a maximum of 3% from the calculated spring rate. High-quality materials guarantee maximum stability and long service life with consistent performance. Low abrasion means that the fork oil stays significantly cleaner than with conventional fork springs, thus minimising wear to the forks as a whole.
Öhlins fork springs are linear or progressive, depending on the motorcycle model. Linear fork springs offer uniform resistance over the entire suspension travel, and therefore support uniform damping. Progressive springs are designed to have a different spring rate, and therefore damping behaviour, in different regions of the suspension travel. Progressive fork springs offer advantages for touring bikes which have to carry varying loads. They are also widely used on classic bikes with twin-shocks on the rear swing arm and conventional, non-adjustable telescopic forks. But the same rule applies to both versions: Öhlins fork springs in combination with Öhlins fork oil deliver a considerable increase in performance over the original fork.
It is important for the balance of the motorcycle that the same type of springs (either linear or progressive) are used both front and rear. In order to utilise the performance of the fork springs optimally, the manufacturer recommends filling the forks with Öhlins fork oil according to the recommendation for the particular motorbike model (see table in the Documents section!)
Please note:
- (PROG.): Indicates progressive fork springs. All others are linear.
- 6.5 - 11.0: The number after the product name "ÖHLINS FORK SPRINGS" indicates the spring rate (N/mm) of the particular fork springs. The higher the number the harder the fork springs.
- /LHA: Refer to your owner's manual for the recommended oil and air cushion/oil level.
- /R&T: The manufacturer recommends Öhlins R&T fork oil (Art. no.: 60870350)
- /#5: The manufacturer recommends Öhlins #5 fork oil (Art. no.: 60870351)
- /#10: The manufacturer recommends Öhlins #10 fork oil (Art. no.: 60870352)
- /#20: The manufacturer recommends Öhlins #20 fork oil (Art. no.: 60870353)

ÖHLINS - Advanced Suspension Technology
Back in 1970, a young man by the name of Kenth Öhlin was passionate about and heavily involved in motocross. Now, Kenth was an observent fellow and one thing in particular struck him: motocross bikes had more power than their chassis could handle. He soon realised that a chassis could be greatly improved with better suspension components and began designing and constructing his ideal shock absorber. Today, the ÖHLINS firm is a leader in high-performance, suspension components for motorbikes, cars, ATVs and snow mobiles. Indeed, Öhlins' suspension components are an integral part of motorsport, its past, present and future.

The German "Allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis (ABE)" (general type approval) authorises the use of the relevant accessories on the vehicle models listed in the certificate booklet. The certificate booklet must be carried along when driving and must be presented on request in the event of a traffic control or the main inspection (HU).
Accessories with an ABE do not have to be registered in the vehicle documents. However, if you do not want to carry the certificate with you at all times, you can have it registered (at a charge) by the TÜV, for example.
If the accessories are to be used on a vehicle that is not listed in the ABE, an individual approval is necessary.
